Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Oct 16: It may sound bizarre but it is true. A Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teacher of a primary school in a village in this district has sought explanation from the Zonal Education Officer as how come his salary along with some other teachers was stopped by the ZEO.
Sources told Early Times that a teacher posted at Government Primary School, Malljadha in Kotranka tehsil has sought explanation from the ZEO after the officer stopped his salary after reports that he did not impart education to children through the online mode.
The development is extraordinary and it has drawn flak from officers of education department.
“The ZEO stopped the salary of ReT teacher Mohammad Mahroof and 46 other teachers after receiving complaints that these teachers are not imparting education through the video classes. The salary issue has snowballed into a major controversy since Mahroof has sought explanation from ZEO seeking reasons for stoppage of salary,” said sources.
Sources said that Chief Education Officer, Rajouri like other districts had directed the teachers to hold online classes for students since the schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following complaints that some teachers are not following directions the CEO Rajouri asked the ZEO concerned to hold a probe and submit the report.
“The ZEO submitted the report and it was established that the complaints are true. Following this the salary was stopped for 47 teachers including Mahroof. After this Mahroof took to messaging platform Whatsapp and sent a message to the ZEO asking him to explain his position vis-à-vis holding the salary of teachers,” said sources.
When contacted, ZEO, Rajesh Kumar said that he did not reply to the explanation sought by the ReT teacher. He said that he does not have the authority to stop the salary of teachers adding that the same has been done by the CEO Rajouri. He demanded action against the concerned ReT teacher.
