Mehbooba in dock
11/3/2020 11:33:21 PM

Hectic efforts of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti to bring her party leaders back seem to have failed.
Ones who have left the PDP are nowhere to be seen and others who still continue to be with her appear to be least interested in her rhetoric.
The anti-national rants of Mehbooba Mufti have pushed her former colleagues away. Her remarks on tricolor triggered outrage in Jammu region and the Jammu based PDP leaders since that day have maintained distance from their chief.
Since the day BJP pulled out from the Mehbooba led coalition in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, the party has been at the crossroads. Mehbooba taking a tough posture has not helped her cause and she continues to be wondering in the woods.
When Mehbooba was under detention a notion was being created that she will emerge as one of the tallest leaders in the Valley as she remained in confinement for more months than others. But as on date that myth stands dispelled as no one is taking her seriously, not even her colleagues. At this point of time Mehbooba would be thinking what she needs to do as she trying to don the mantle of separatists has not helped her cause. For time being she has found solace in so-called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and has accepted National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah as the leader. She along with few other Kashmir centric leaders is trying to tell the people that they are out to get everything back. They have coined a new slogan i.e. to seek restoration of Articles 370 and 35-A, which everyone knows is a difficult task. Mehbooba at this point of time is standing alone and she has no one to fall back upon. Even her close relatives and aides are staying away from her as everyone wants to save his/her skin. The PDP chief needs to accept that her party has become a history and it’s very difficult for her to remain relevant in the given political scenario. If she continues to remain adamant and talk about the things which are impossible to achieve, more and more people will start abandoning her. She has to choose which camp she wants to remain in. If she wants to be a part of the mainstream camp then she will have to fall in the line, if she wants to cross the line then she can end up anywhere.
