Vehicles registered in Punjab, Haryana plying illegally in Poonch

EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Nov 3: It has become very common in various parts of J&K UT particularly in Poonch district where vehicles registered in Punjab and Haryana are plying and being sold without following Motor Vehicle rules and regulations.
Sources told Early that the majority of the vehicles from these states are not transferred to the new owners and even no NOC is given by the seller. “People purchase these vehicles due to their reasonable cost but don’t ensure proper transfer of the vehicles at the time of taking possession. As per MV Act, any vehicle registered from another state should be transferred and registered with the concerned ARTO of J&K UT within 90 days,” they said.
They further said that even the SHO of the concerned Police Station was informed about this illegal business being carried out but no action has so far been taken to verify the facts. “ It has been found that vehicles sold or purchased without ensuring transfer are usually used in criminal activities,” they said.
When concerned ARTO was informed about the matter, he went to one of the shops and asked for the permission for selling vehicles of other states, the owner replied that he had got permission from DC Poonch despite the fact that permission has to be sought from the Transport Department.
Locals urged the SSP Poonch to take action against such vehicle owners as well as the dealers who purchase and sell them without transfer of the vehicles. “There are possibilities that these vehicles can be used in anti-social activities,” they said.
