Protest dharna of Lawyers Action Committee continues
11/3/2020 11:40:51 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Nov 3: The Lawyers agitating for opening of High Court and Subordinate Courts for physical hearing and removing the restrictions on the entry of lawyers and public in the courts, continued their dharna in Janipura Court area.
Since October 15, the Advocates practicing in Jammu Wing of High Court and Subordinate Courts after constituting Lawyers Action Committee are agitating with the demands for opening of all courts for physical entry to lawyers and public, resume physical hearing, acceptance of hard copies of cases, opening the locked Bar Rooms of lawyers, provision of stamp papers and tickets within court premises through stamp vendors, immediate opening of Consumer Courts, shifting back Registry of Documents to Judicial Officers, withdrawing contempt initiated against the lawyers, holding immediate election to the J&K Bar Council.
The Lawyers Action Committee has expressed great resentment at the continuation of restrictions till November 30 for the entry of lawyers and public in the Courts. Asking the High Court to reconsider its decision and remove restrictions of entry in courts and allow physical hearings in cases, the Lawyers Action Committee has decided to carry on its struggle on the issues projected by it. The Government has allowed human activity in all other fields including Govt. offices, business establishments, social and religious fields. Functioning of courts without lawyers cannot be conceived, Advocates are officers of courts. Keeping them out is unconstitutional and amounts to denial of access to justice delivery system. There is no logic in keeping the doors of courts closed for lawyers and the public.
Virtual mode of functioning of courts is no alternative to physical appearance of lawyers, judges, and the litigating public. Prominent participants in today’s Dharna included MP Gupta, Sikander Anand, Vinod Abrol, H C Jalmeria, CS Gupta, Rajinder Kumar, Meenu Koul, Kulbhushan Sajgotra, Manohar Gupta, Kuldip Singh Parihar, Ashok Kumar Basotra, Babu Ram Sharma,Rakesh Singh Slathia, Bansi Lal Sharma, PS Pawar, Parvinder Singh, Umesh Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Charanjeev Singh, Rajinder Jamwal, KS Chib, Ravinder Kumar, Surjit Singh Andotra, Kunal Singh Chib, Amit Gupta, Leena Devi, Balbir Singh, Mulkh Raj, Amit Pathania, Rakesh Sharma, Atul Raina, besides others.
