LMD Udhampur recovers Rs 0.44 lakh penalty from erring traders

UDHAMPUR, Nov 12: Legal Metrology Department Udhampur has recovered Rs 00.44 lakh penalty from erring traders during a massive market checking conducted ahead of Diwali Festival.
The LMD team under the supervision of Assistant Controller conducted extensive checking of various business establishment particularly Sweets shops, Vegetable and fruit shops , Provisional stores dealing with gift items, Dry fruits, Karayana shops, Gas Agencies, on MH Road, Shiv Nagar, Domail, Mukherji Bazar, Gole Market, Court Road, Slathia Chowk, Dhar Road, Kallar and adjoining Areas .
During inspection, more than 180 traders dealing in different trades were inspected for their compliance to various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and Packaged Commodities Rules.
Twenty erring traders including sweet shops, Provisional stores, Karayana Shops, Shoping Mall and other traders dealing with the Weights and Measures were booked and penalty of Rs 44000.00 imposed for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Legal Metrology Packages Commodities rules 2011.
The Department directed all the traders to use only those Weights and Measures and weighing and Measuring Instruments for Business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that Maximum Retail Price (MRP),Date of packing(PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer and Customer care Number have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form as per the Legal Metrology packaged commodities Rules . The Department also appealed the traders not to charge more than MRP declared on the Product.
