Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Natipora area is hardly three kilometers away from the city centre of Srinagar district but still then the roads in the area are in total dilapidation and these mock at the claims of the Roads & Buildings (R&B) department that everything is hunky dory.
The residents of the area told Early Times that the dilapidated condition of roads is causing problems to them, but still then the concerned authorities are unmoved. They said that over the years very little headway has been made in improving the road infrastructure in the Natipora and adjoining areas.
“There is a pedestrian bridge that connects Natipora area with the Bone & Joints Hospital Barzulla. The approach road to this bridge is in total mess and it becomes difficult for the people to cross the same and reach the Barzulla hospital or the adjacent areas,” said a group of residents.
The residents said that accident cannot be ruled out at this place since the Doodh Ganga nallah runs beneath the pedestrian bridge. They said that since the road is dilapidated there are chances that anybody may fall in the nallah while trying to negotiate the ditches and potholes that continue to haunt people.
“Since the winter season has already set in and we can have rain or snow anytime the approach road would become slippery due to mud that would be there following inclement weather. As such the people at helm have to be more responsible but they seem to be least bothered about the same,” said the residents.
The residents said that in addition to this macadam in many lanes as well as by-lanes in the Natipora area has already caved in and ditches as well as potholes have come up in these pockets. They demanded filling of the ditches as well as potholes so that the rain water or snow does not get accumulated in them.
