Diwali Arrangements finalised at Kathua

KATHUA, Nov 12: District Development Commissioner Kathua O. P Bhagat today convened a meeting of officers to finalise arrangements for the Diwali festival in the district.
Detailed discussions were held on the arrangements including security, maintenance of law and order, traffic regulation, drinking water and power supply, sanitation, medicare, checking of rates and quality of eatables and deployment of fire tenders.
It was given out that Town Hall of Kathua Municipal Council will be the designated venue for the sale of fire crackers. The DC asked the Fire Services department to keep a Fire tender ready near the venue of stalls where people in large number would visit for purchasing fireworks.
The DC asked the Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti and PDD to ensure regular drinking water and uninterrupted power supply especially during the festival. He passed instructions to the traffic department to put in place effective mechanism to check traffic congestion in the markets and also ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The Executive Officer, Municipality was instructed to ensure cleanliness across the entire town while the Health Department was asked to ensure first-aid facility and readily available Ambulance at important installations.
He instructed the traffic authority to prepare a comprehensive traffic plans for smooth flow of traffic in the city. It was decided that a Joint team of officers of Food Civil Supplies and Public Distribution, Health, Municipality, Legal Meteorology and Revenue departments would conduct frequent market checking to keep a check on the rates and quality of products especially sweets and fruit items. Security at important installations of the town and exit points was also discussed in detail during the meeting.
ADC Kathua Atul Gupta, DSP HQ Majid Wani, ACR, ACD, Chief Medical Officer, EO MC, Tehsildar and other district officers of various departments were also present.
