Former J&K CM shows no interest in DDC polls
Is Ghulam Nabi Azad still a Congress man?

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 18: Absence of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad from J&K’s political scenario amidst the clamour for the forthcoming District Development Council elections has raised a valid question i.e. whether the veteran politician is still a Congress man?
Sources within the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) divulged that Azad’s absence is deeply being felt within the camp by the leadership. However, if sources are to be believed, Azad is taking no interest in the DDC polls which are being fought jointly by the Congress with the PAGD. “The truth is that Azad sahib is not attending any meetings. He is not even seeking ground report about the poll preparations. We seriously doubt whether he still is part of the Congress party,” said a functionary of the party.
Meanwhile, within the Congress Party speculations are rife that Azad is disgruntled due to his juniors calling the shots in Jammu and Kashmir and his opinion not being taken into consideration by anyone there. “Rajni Patel recently came here and underlined the roadmap for party’s forthcoming strategy. The truth is that there is still confusion within the ranks and no one really knows what Azad is contemplating,” said, a middle rung leader.
On October 28, while his party issued a formal statement against the new land laws declaring that the Congress party will fight for the core interests of Jammu and Kashmir, Azad chose to speak about the non-payment of wages to doctors. “In this period of COVID crisis, non-payment of salaries by North MCD to doctors who are frontline warriors is shameful & deplorable. North MCD & Delhi Govt should not indulge in politics on the issue & ensure that the doctors are paid their salary immediately. #HINDURAOHOSPITAL,” tweeted Azad.
The veteran Congress leader seems to have been adopting a novel strategy and is for the first time choosing not to speak on the matters which for his party are of greater significance.
