Early Times Report

Reasi, Nov 26: A unique initiative has been taken up jointly by Agriculture Department, Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) Jammu and District Administration to promote the cultivation of Lemon Grass in Reasi district . This programme was launched as per instructions of Principal Secretary Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare, J&K, Navin Kumar Choudhary.
As a part of ongoing programme, one day awareness camp was organized today at Pouni Village in which Lemon grass slips were distributed among the farmers free of cost. The participants emphasised on switching over to cultivation of Lemon grass on the land that was earlier kept fallow due to monkey menace as monkeys do not feed on Lemon grass. This will further help in income generation by means of extracting lemon grass oil and other processed products like incense sticks that are in high demand in the market. Those present on the occasion include SMS (DL), Amit Sharma, ASCO, Deepak Singh, SDAO Reasi, Guldev Raj, I/C AEO Pouni, Narinder Kumar, Concerned AEAs, besides Sarpanch, Neelam Kumari and other PRI members.
District Development Commissioner Reasi. Indu Kanawl Chib is actively involved in lemon grass promotion project and different agencies are being approached by district administration for installation of distillation plants for extraction of Lemon Grass Oil. One such distillation plant is already operational at Sera Kotla.
