Gupkar Alliance in shambles as parties fighting against each other
11/27/2020 12:20:47 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 26: Contrary to the tall claims of the founders of the much talked about Gupkar Alliance, leaders of this amalgam are fighting against each other in the District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Despite announcement of ‘seat adjustment’ with Gupkar Alliance, Congress leaders are fighting elections against amalgam candidates at several places, thus making alliance as ‘farce’.
Former Minister and Congress stalwart, Taj Mohi-ud-Din is fighting election from Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district against the Gupkar Alliance candidate. Same is the situation in some other areas of the Valley where Congress is the main rival of either PDP or NC.
Similarly in Rajouri, all constituents of Gupkar Alliance have decided to field their candidates. Same is the situation in Poonch, where Congress, PDP and National Conference candidates have decided to fight against each other.
In many areas of Jammu, National Conference and Congress candidates are fighting against each other.
“Despite announcement of seat adjustment with Gupkar Alliance, it is difficult to implement the same at the grass-root level because in many areas party has direct flight with either NC or PDP so in these areas we are not going to give walk-over to these parties”, a senior Congress leader told The Early Times.
Wishing anonymity he said party leadership has already given verbal consent to field candidates against Gupkar Alliance nominees at all places where Congress was a force to reckon with. In twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, both PDP and NC have equal stakes because both the parties are rivals in this mountainous belt so Alliance is the only of the name in this region. In 28 DDCs seats of Poonch and Rajouri, BJP is strong only in few so in the remaining seats there is direct contest among PDP, NC and Congress candidates.
In some seats of Jammu district where NC is strong Congress has also fielded its candidates.
