NABARD hosts State level Stakeholders Meet on (GI) Registration

JAMMU, Nov 26: A State level Stakeholders meet on Geographical Indications (GI) Registration was organized by NABARD at Jammu Regional Office which was chaired by Rakesh Kumar Srivastava, Chief General Manager, NABARD and attended by Director Handloom & Handicrafts, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Jammu, and several other officials from the Directorate of Agriculture Production & Farmers’ Welfare and the Directorate of Handloom & Handicrafts, Jammu. The CGM NABARD delivered the keynote address and briefed the participants of the functions and the role being played by NABARD in agricultural and rural development. This was followed by a detailed discussion on various aspects of GI tagging. The participants gave their valuable inputs on the same. DGM NABARD, Anamika informed the house that NABARD has identified 5 products of Jammu & Kashmir to be taken up for GI tagging in the first phase viz. 1. Basholi Paintings (Kathua); Basholi Pashmina Woolen Products(Kathua; Samba Calico Printing Craft (Samba);. Bhaderwa Rajma(Doda and Mushkbudji Rice (Kulgam). The meeting gave suggestions for some more unique products for GI tagging like Kala Jeera, Parali Handicrafts and Saffron from Kishtwar, Sulai Honey from Ramban, Kaladi and Elephant Garlic from Udhampur, in the second phase. The CGM NABARD stated that this is a collaborative effort and requested the State Government officials to extend their full cooperation in completing the GI tagging process and the post registration activities for the marketing and publicity of the identified products.
