GDC Banihal organizes webinar on Mental Health

Banihal, Dec 2: Psychological Counselling Cell, Government Degree College Banihal organised a webinar on the theme ,"Mental Health" under the Manodarpan initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India and Department of Higher Education, J&K..The programme was organised by Prof. Ajay Kumar, Coordinator, Psychological Counselling Cell, GDC Banihal under the overall guidance and patron ship of Dr. Manohar Lal, Principal of the college. An online essay writing competition on "Mental Health : a reality or a myth " was also organised wherein eight students participated of whom Izna Rather of B.A.Sem-2 got the first position while Manzoor Ahmed of B.A.Sem-5 attained second position.
The Principal stressed upon the importance of mental health for overall realization of one's potential and productivity. The main speaker of the event, Deepak Kumar, Physical Training Instructor(PTI) of the college described in detail about various mental health issues like depression, anxiety, stress, suicide, nervousness, drug abuse, eating disorders etc. and advised students to sleep for 6-8 hours a day, play sports, perform yoga, pranayama and other exercises regularly for attaining positivity and seek professional help when needed. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed Sohil (HoD Political Science) suggested reading books/novels for relaxing mind.Prof. Ajay Kumar(HoD Sociology) presented the vote of thanks.
