BJP challenges Geelani in his stronghold; holds Tonga rally at Sopore
12/2/2020 11:51:42 PM

Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 02: First time after eruption of terrorism in J&K in early 1990's, terror plagued Sopore town on Wednesday witnessed political rally which was organized by none other than BJP-which was earlier considered as 'untouchable' in the Valley.
On Wednesday BJP organized 'Tonga rally' at Sopore in Baramulla which is native place of hardcore Hurriyat leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani. Braving threats of terrorists and separatist leaders, a large number of local Tongawallas participated in the rally which was organized as part of the campaign for District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Eyewitnesses said that BJP's rally in the area-which was once considered as hotbed of terrorism, has surprised leaders of Kashmir based political parties like National Conference and PDP because even they usually avoid holding political rallies in this belt.
Today's rally was addressed by BJP's general secretary of J&K, Vivodh Gupta, who is also incharge of Kashmir province. "We organized a rally at Sopore to give a clear message to forces inimical to the peace that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has decided to establish lasting and sustainable peace in Kashmir Valley", Gupta said.
Gupta regretted that Sopore was known as mini-London, but terrorism and separatism have locked all means of development in this area. "Today's Tonga rally is a direct message of people of Sopore that they are with the Prime Minister Narendera Modi. We promise to the people of Sopore that if they choose BJP candidate, we will set up an international mandi in Sopore to give a fillip to the fruit market of Sopore," he said, adding that the "bumper polling in the two phases of DDC polls has given a message that Kashmir has changed and there was no space for militancy and separatism and want to live in peace with dignity."
