Cornered Again
12/6/2020 10:30:55 PM
The Government of India (GoI) has once again cornered the Kashmir centric politicians by announcing 50% subsidy on carriage and cold storage facilities for the apple produced in the Valley.
The Valley based politicians who were projecting themselves as the Messiahs and were claiming that they will get everything back couldn't find any words to react to the GoI's people centric decision. These politicians ruled J&K for nearly seven decades but they never thought about providing relief to the apple growers and others, associated with the horticulture industry.
During all these years Kashmir centric politicians promised moon and stars to the people. They sold illusions like Azadi, Pakistan, self-rule and autonomy. Had they focussed on the needs of people and their requirements, separatism would not have grown in the Valley.
The GoI's decision to reduce 50% carriage and cold storage charges is a big relief for the people associated with the apple industry especially in Kashmir. The Valley based leaders should understand that common people are no more interested in their divisive politics. Masses seem least bothered about the Kashmir centric politicians coming together for a bigger cause. They don't even care about what these leaders want to get back. People coming out in large numbers to cast their votes in the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) polls in the Valley is an indication that fear of gun is disappearing and separatists are no more relevant.
People are interested in peace, prosperity and development. No one wants to believe these leaders, who have come together to make a comeback in the power corridors.
After J&K's reorganization, many things have become crystal clear. The biggest fact that has come to fore is that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India and will continue to remain so, come what may. One more myth which stands shattered post August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K's special status, is that the so called leaders in Kashmir had no mass following.
During all these years they had created a smokescreen about them being the only people who could rule J&K and keep it with the union of India. After these leaders were arrested post abrogation of Article 370, not a single protest was held anywhere in Kashmir to seek their release. Their rhetoric has no takers as masses know it very well that they cannot be hoodwinked anymore.
