Jammu, Dec 9: Vishal Khatri Sabha today hailed LG Administration and security forces for successfully holding first-ever election to 20 District Development Councils (DDCs) comprising 280 Territorial constituencies to complete third tier of Panchayats involving nearly 70 percent electorates in Jammu and Kashmir which was first biggest electoral exercise after J&K was converted into the Union Territory from the State. In a meeting of Sabha held today,President Vishal Khatri Sabha Devender Seth applauded Union Government for giving go ahead to conduct of DDCs elections for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir as never in the past the erstwhile State had elected District Development Boards, which used to be headed by the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers.LG Administration and security forces deserves our appreciation for ensuring free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections so far besides providing sufficient security to the participating candidates and ensuring maximum participation of the people in the upcoming elections for DDC and Panchayats and Municipal by-elections, added Seth.
While appreciating the role of J&K Police, he said that J&K Police has proved yet again that itis capable of dealing with the emerging situation, while maintaining a close watch on all inimical elements to ensure peace in the region,” he maintained.
We are confident that the budding Panchayati Raj system will be the harbinger of change in Jammu and Kashmir in the future," he said.
There is energy in the system which is palpable. People want to take charge of their development works at the local level and manage their affairs. People recognize the importance of peace for development.
And as they gradually take things into their hands, matters will only improve, he said.People's aspirations have, however, placed an onerous responsibility on LG Administration to deliver on the promise of development," Seth said.
