PAGD turns into one woman show?
12/11/2020 12:09:03 AM

Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 10: Peoples Democratic Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)-an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties-has become a one-woman show as the president of Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, is projecting herself to be the only leader.
The developments that have taken place in the recent past have proved it beyond doubt that she is doing all the talking while others, including National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, have been sidelined.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Mehbooba has high jacked PAGD. She is not allowing any of the leaders to come forward and is trying to send a message that she is the only one who can fight for the rights of the people."
He said, "Other Kashmir centric leaders who had come together to form the PAGD have turned mute. It seems these leaders don't want to end up in trouble. Soon after the PDP youth president Waheed Para was arrested by National Investigating Agency (NIA) in connection with a militancy related case, the PAGD leaders distanced themselves from the controversy and no joint statement was issued to react to Para's arrest."
An observer said, "Cracks within the PAGD are wide and open. Mehbooba is acting like a rebel while others have turned into bench sitters. The alliance has collapsed even before it could function properly. The body language of the PAGD candidates, who are contesting the ongoing DDC elections is not that positive and it appears that they have already lost hope."
Referring to the "lack of interest" shown by the National Conference leaders, including Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, the observer said, "These leaders didn't even make a single attempt to campaign for the PAGD candidates who are contesting the elections. Mehbooba's aggressive posture seems to have pushed everyone on the back foot."
Another analyst said, "The future of PAGD looks bleak and there is every possibility about this alliance crumbling under its own weight soon after the DDC polls are over."
