Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 12: Amid a second wave of deadly Covid-19 having gripped the country prompting Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to urgently call an all-party meeting, the Bharatiya Janta Party leaders in Jammu and Kashmir seem to be in no mood to adhere to the safety protocols.
During the ongoing District Development Council elections, the BJP leaders have been holding numerous party meetings where neither the social distancing is maintained nor the leaders are seen wearing face masks.
At one such meeting held recently in Jammu district, where the cases have been on rise, the BJP leaders were seen literally rubbing shoulders with each other and none of them was wearing face masks.
Similar remained the scene during the BJP's party meetings held recently in Kashmir.
The defiance of the protocol from the BJP is coming at a time, when a BJP President Ravinder Raina was among the few hundred Covid cases from Jammu earlier this year and thus the party was expected to be more cautious. Raina had recovered from the infection only after hospitalization.
As about the recent nationwide strategy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been personally asking the people to adhere to the Covid19 protocols especially in maintenance of social distancing and also in wearing facemasks.
The Prime Minister didn't attend even a single public event without maintaining social distance and use of facemasks.
Health experts said the politicians in Jammu and Kashmir were sending a bad message though such acts which defy the Covid19 guidelines.
It is pertinent to mention that Modi chaired an all-party meeting on December 4 to discuss the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country. The meeting also discussed the government's plan of a vaccine roll-out in the near future.
Due to the pandemic, PM Modi ensured that the meeting was held virtually and involved floor leaders of all parties. But in Jammu the BJP leaders are defying Covid19 protocols.
Despite repeated attempts the BJP leaders in Jammu were not available for comments.
