Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau Monday carried out raids at 21 places in Srinagar and north Kashmir's Baramulla district in connection with a case of embezzlement of food grains by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department.
An official told Early Times that the ACB teams assisted by a joint team of security forces conducted searches in the residential houses of accused officers at Srinagar. The teams also searched offices of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department in Baramullah district.
He said that one Deputy Director and six Assistant Directors of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department were key accused in the scam which has caused a loss of Rs. 1,00,75,155/- to the State Exchequer.
"The residential houses of Deputy Director and six Assistant Directors were searched today and incriminating material was seized during the raids. The houses of Tehsil Supplies Officers and storekeepers were also searched," he said.
In a statement, Anti-Corruption Bureau said that they a verification conducted by the agency revealed that Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department Kashmir has allotted additional 500 AAY Ration Tickets (RTs) to district Baramulla with effect from October 2017 vide order No. 261-DFCS&CAK of 2017 dated 10.07.2017 under revised NFSA target. The additional allotment of rice 5075 quintals (35 kgs / RT per month) continuously flowed from the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Kashmir to district Baramulla for 29 months from the month of October 2017 to February 2020.
The anti-graft agency said that the officials of FCS&CA department instead of identifying the additional 500 AAY beneficiaries, misappropriated quantity of additional allotment in league with their Tehsil Supply Officers (TSOs) and Storekeepers which resulted in a loss of Rs. 1,00,75,155/- to the State Exchequer.
ACB said that a case FIR No. 05/2020 has been registered in P/S ACB Baramulla u/s 5(1)(c), 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C Act Svt. 2006 and section 120-B,409 RPC against the accused.
"Further investigation of the case is going on" ACB said in a statement.
