Rhetoric has no takers
12/23/2020 11:21:03 PM
Results of the District Development Council (DDC) elections have revealed that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti is fast losing its relevance in Kashmir.
The party which had once emerged as an alternative for the National Conference in Kashmir just managed to win more than 25 DDC seats. This indicates that PDP has lost its ground in the Valley and people are no more interested in its rhetoric.
The PDP president who keeps on screaming at the top of her voice that she will get everything back has failed to keep her flock together. The handful of leaders left in the PDP are being probed for their links with the terror outfits. Mehbooba Mufti had tasted a humiliating defeat in the parliamentary elections that were held in 2019 and that was the beginning of PDP’s fall.
The PDP has been at the receiving end since the demise of the party founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Till he was alive the PDP was considered as a secular party but after Mehbooba donned her father’s mantle she forgot about the secular credentials of the party and went out of way to appease the separatists.
The coterie around her taught her wrong lessons and it ensured that Mehbooba as J&K chief minister leaves no stone unturned to follow the agenda of the Pakistan stooges, who were active in Kashmir.
Despite taking refuge in green colour and preaching separatism, Mehbooba’s party has failed to make any impact on the ground and people have outrightly rejected her party and the politics she indulged in.
The results of the DDC elections have proven it beyond doubt that PDP had no other choice other than bowing before the National Conference and accepting Farooq Abdullah’s leadership. This is the same PDP which left no opportunity to castigate Abdullah and his party in the past. Had PDP not been a part of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) it would not have stood anywhere. With just a handful of seats it would not have made a big difference.
The debacle of the PDP should serve as an eye opener for those who used to believe that by selling dreams and illusions they can befool people. Now, the lines have been drawn and it’s crystal clear that no one can preach secessionism and sedition in New India.
