Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 23: After securing just 55789 votes during the District Development Councils (DDCs) elections, the self-proclaimed ‘protector’ of Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti asserted that she will bring back Article 370. She claimed that votes secured by her party were against the decision of the Union Government to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A.
Importantly as per official data there were more than 67 lakh voters in J&K who were eligible to cast their votes in the DDCs elections. Out of these 67 lakh voters over 40 percent had cast their votes in the eight-phased DDCs elections.
As per rough estimate over 30 lakh voters had exercised their right to franchise in DDCs elections, out of which Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP secured over 55000 but she is claiming to be winner in these elections. She asserted that it was vote against abrogation of Article 370. As of now total 28,55509 votes were counted out of which PDP got only 3.96 percent.
Mehbooba claimed that PAGD has won maximum seats in J&K and that “it’s a people’s verdict against revocation of article 370.” “PDP alone has bagged 30 seats. BJP used to sa

that PDP doesn’t exist anymore. But today’s verdict is an eye-opener for the BJP,” she said. The PDP chief said that BJP’s carrot and stick policy won’t do and that “people will resist all such moves.” She said that the way BJP was defeated in DDC polls in Kashmir, Assembly polls won’t be held in near future and would be further delayed.
“Today’s DDC results have made it clear that people of J&K voted en masse for @JKPAGD thus rejecting the unconstitutional decision to abrogate Article 370. They have overwhelmingly supported @JKPAGD which stands for restoration of J&Ks special status”, she tweeted on Tuesday during the counting.
Mehbooba’s political rivals in Kashmir Valley chided her for tall claims after declaration of the results of DDCs elections.
Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and leader of Apni Party, Junai Mattu said, “Candidates who emerged victorious after seeking votes for the restoration of special status, should bring it back within a month”
“It stands the responsibility of those people who bagged votes on Article 370 abrogation to bring special status back within one month,” Mattu said.
