Fair polls, massive turnout denounced supporters of Article 370: Suri
12/23/2020 11:34:38 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 23: “Massive participation and subsequently voters’ turnout in DDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir have established that Article 370 was a hurdle in the empowerment of people at grassroot levels and emergence of new leadership. The decision of the Union Government to hold DDC polls post abrogation of Article 370 has also vindicated the fact that people always wanted powers to be decentralised and extension of central laws here in this Union Territory by all means”.
This was stated by BJP J&K Executive Member Raman Suri who added, “Now that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 74 seats, three alone in Kashmir against seven political outfits named Gupkar Alliance; this is a victory for the party for making inroads in the Valley, which was made personal fiefdom of a select few.”
Suri said, these elections have also established that people least cared for Article 370 and wanted to become part of democratic process for development of their villages. Massive participation of candidates and voters’ turnout has proved that people in every part of Jammu and Kashmir stand for democracy and not for any special status that barred them and their progress. As against PDP’s mere fifty-five thousand votes, BJP has gathered five lakh votes, which is a huge victory and apt answer to divisive forces. BJP’s entry into Kashmir will pave a way for more smooth assembly polls. Suri further said that every political outfit participated in these DDC polls with enthusiasm and without any allegations of rigging, which establishes that administration did its job meticulously. He also congratulated Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha for concluding this massive exercise fairly.
Suri, while condemning the statement of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti that DDC election results show people’s rejection of Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370, said that in reality, it is the other way round. People’s participation says that they don’t care for Article 370 anymore and want to move on with powers at their disposal to strengthen the democracy.
