No 4G for Jammu
1/1/2021 11:23:03 PM
More than 500 days have passed since the day high speed internet services were snapped in Jammu region. Hopes about this service being restored on the occasion of New Year stand dashed as the administration has not issued
The 4G services on mobile phones were suspended on August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to revoke J&K's special status and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. The authorities cited security concerns as a prime reason for snapping the mobile internet services across J&K on.
The 2G services were restored nearly 6 months after the mobile internet was snapped. But the 4G services continue to remain cut. These were restored in Ganderbal district in Kashmir and Udhampur district in Jammu in August 2020 after the intervention of the Supreme Court. Other districts of Jammu region continue to be without the high speed internet services.
It's unfortunate that people of Jammu are suffering due to them being clubbed with Kashmir. One can understand that the high speed internet services in the Valley were misused by Pakistani agents and stooges but same doesn't hold true for Jammu as the people in this region are nationalists to core. People of Jammu have always stood like a rock behind the armed forces of the country and have fought the scourge terrorism tooth and nail. They have never sided with the anti-national elements or the forces.
When Article 370 was abrogated there were apprehensions that there might be some security challenges. However, not a single protest broke out in Jammu region after the Centre's decision and situation remained peaceful. Even the abrogation of Article 370 has become a history now and since August 5, 2019 lot of things have changed.
The BJP leaders, whom the people of Jammu supported wholeheartedly in 2014 assembly polls, have been acting as mute spectators. Whenever people, who had voted for them, ask tough questions to them they simply say that they are helpless and they cannot afford to annoy their central leadership by asking them to restore 4G internet services in Jammu. These leaders too have disappointed the people of Jammu to a great extent.
Jammuties have tried their best to make everyone realize that high speed internet is a necessity in today's age and people cannot be kept deprived of it. But no one seems interested in listening to them.
It's high time for the helmsmen to take a call on restoring 4G internet services in Jammu region. They should stop clubbing Jammu with Kashmir and need to understand that J&K is not only about Kashmir.
