SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Dozens of far-flung and remote villages -- including border towns of Keran, Karnah and Tanghdar -- were cutoff on Monday due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall in north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, traffic to the border town of Gurez and dozens of other far-flung villages, including those near the Line of Control (LOC), remained suspended for the second successive day from rest of the valley due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall.
However, Machil remained connected with the district headquarters in Kupwara even as traffic was plying normally to the border town and adjoining areas despite 2 inches of fresh snowfall. "Traffic was on Monday suspended to dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including Kernah, Keran and Tanghdar, due to slippery road conditions and accumulation of snow," an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI.
He said Sadhna top and Phirkiyan pass received about 7 to 8 inches of fresh snowfall since Sunday. "Snow clearance operation has not been started due to bad weather conditions," he said, adding traffic will be resumed only after getting a green signal from officials deployed on the ground and improvement in the weather.
He said Z gali, connecting Machil with Kupwara received about 3 to 4 inches of fresh snowfall. "But, traffic was plying on the road," he added.
An official of Police Control Room (PCR) from Bandipora said that Gurez, which is surrounded from Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, remained closed for traffic for the second successive day. "Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, received fresh snowfall since Sunday hampering the snow clearance operation," he said. |
