Of 140 DDC seats PDP wins one

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 4: Notwithstanding tall claims of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, people of Jammu region have out-rightly rejected her party in the just concluded District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Mehbooba Mufti is claiming that people of the whole J&K have endorsed a stand taken by her party but the results of DDC is an indication that PDP has been completely routed in Jammu province.
While as another Kashmir centric party-National Conference performed well in most parts of Jammu province, residents of Jammu completely rejected PDP.
Out of total 140 DDC seats in Jammu province, PDP managed to win only one seat from Nowshera.
In the remaining 139 seats across Jammu province Mehbooba Mufti’s could not get respectable votes. Even in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri which was once considered as PDP’s bastions in Jammu province, the party failed to open its account. In the 2014 Assembly election, PDP had won three seats from Poonch and Rajouri and secured respectable votes but in the DDCs election performance of the party was a ‘big zero’.
Two PDP candidates namely Anjum Jawaid from Thanamandi and Nadeeem Khan from Mendhar were runner-ups in their respective constituencies.
Former Chief Minister and founder of the party late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had invested a lot in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri to expand the party's base in this belt. It was all due to the efforts of Mufti Sayeed that PDP had emerged as a force in this mountainous region but the incumbent leadership of PDP has spoiled all efforts of late Mufti Sayeed.
Similarly Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had also invested in Kishtwar district but the party has also failed to open its account in the district due to failure of the leadership.
Out of total 140 seats of Jammu province, PDP won only one seat while party candidates were runner-ups on only two.
