Avoid police case: Share tenants’ info with cops
1/25/2021 11:20:56 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 25: Hiding information relating to tenants would cost heavily in the coming days as the police are likely to initiate aggressive verification drive in this connection in Jammu city after the Republic Day.
District Magistrate Jammu had in 2019 through a notification made it mandatory for the landlords to share details of their tenants with concerned Police Stations.
“A landlord has been arrested by Gandhi Nagar Police for hiding details of his tenants, who murdered ATM guard in Nanak Nagar area. In past almost all the Police Stations of Jammu city randomly conducted verification of tenants and also registered cases against the landlords for hiding information in violation of DM’s order”, a senior Police officer told Early Times.
He added that as per notification No DMJ/LO 2019-20/1574-85 Dated 24-09-19 issued by the District Magistrate Jammu, it has been made mandatory to inform concerned Police Station about the tenants by respective landlords.
“We received very poor response from the general public, as very few people voluntarily came forward abiding by the DM's order”, the officer said, adding that territorial Police officers have been asked for frequent checks, in order to find out whether someone is hiding any information in this regard.
“Gandhi Nagar Police on 23/01/2021 conducted verification of a tenant namely Waqas Bashir Lone, who was involved in ATM guard’s murder and was staying in house of Jaswant Singh in Nanak Nagar Jammu. The owner has neither informed Police nor conducted any verification in the Police Station”, the officer said, adding that it was a very negligent act on the part of the landlord.
“A case against the landlord, Jaswant Singh vide FIR No 19/2021 U/S 188 IPC got registered at P/S Gandhi Nagar”, the officer said, adding that making Jammu city crime free is not possible without required cooperation of the people.
