Jammu, Jan 28: Govt. Degree College, Vijaypur organized a seminar under the Manodarpan Initiative of MHRD Govt. of India on “Placement Opportunities after Graduation” as a placement cell activity of the College. Dr. Ram Singh Sambyal, Assistant Professor and HOD Education, GDC Samba, District Co-ordinator, Psychological Counseling, Career Counseling and Placement Cell, Samba and Prof. Pawan Gupta, Associate Professor and HOD Commerce, GDC Samba, Co-ordinator, Placement Cell, GDC Samba, were the resource persons. They focused on the placement opportunities for B.A. and B.Com students respectively in different sectors. Dr. Ram Singh Sambyal exhorted that the students should prepare for various jobs along with their academics and divided his lecture into two parts. In first part, he discussed about various steps a student should take during his/her graduation which includes setting a goal, strong writing and vocabulary skills, language and grammar, etc. He further added that a student should also take up various Diploma courses like those in Pre-Primary Education, Computer skill, Creative writing, Communication Skills, etc. during his/her graduation. After graduation, a student can pursue B.Ed. in special Education or opt for Higher Education or apply for various Central Govt. (Staff Selection Commission) and State Govt. (Service Selection Board) jobs, Banking sector, etc. They can also prepare for UPSC/PSC exams. Prof. Pawan Gupta shared that it is important for each student to fix a goal/target at the time they enter College because ‘Well began is half done’. Students should study and work hard as ‘Hard work is key to success’. He further added that the students should work on Comprehension, Mathematics, Reasoning and General Awareness. He said that it’s important for a student to manage the time effectively and have a regular self-introspection and self-analysis. More than hundred students attended the lecture and actively interacted with the resource persons.
