Strict action was demanded against the culprits through a free, fair and thorough investigation. Consequently Enquiry teams were constituted but they proved to be an eye-wash. Also, the Divisional Forests Officer Ramnagar vide his office order No:- 650-53 dated:- 01.07.2020, No:- 668-74 dated:- 02.07.2020, ordered enquiry into the case. During the course of investigation, the joint teams of Forest Protection Force and Forest Department raided & searched a number of houses and a large amount of timber to the tune of about 10 trucks Deodar timber was traced/ recovered.
In the preliminary enquiry report the constituted teams reported heavy damage but the enquiry and further booking of offenders under law was stopped due to the tactical pressure from the higher authorities, especially from the Divisional Forest officer Ram Nagar. In order to draw the attention of the government towards the issue, a number of citizens of the town and members of civil society conducted a series of press conferences and raised their concern over the loot of green gold.
The two forest guards and a range officer have been made scapegoats to hide this burning issue. The next date of hearing has been fixed in the case on February 3, 2021.
