EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 6: A delegation of the Lawyers Action Committee called on President of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) here today. The Lawyers Action Committee delegation comprising its convener HC Jalmeria, AK Sawhney, JA Kazmi, Ashok Sharma, Ravinder Sharma, Rajinder Chanyal, Ch Shah Mohd, Meharban Singh, Shabir Khan, Vinod Sharma, Abrar Khan, Gourab Sharma and Bhavishya Sudan submitted a memorandum to PCC President GA Mir.
The Lawyers' delegation had detailed discussion with J&K Congress president on the issues of shifting of Registration from Judicial to Revenue Officers and its adverse effect of delays and rise of corruption in the process, closure of forums under Consumer Protection Act, Closure of Accountability Commission, Closure of Human Rights Commission, Closure of Commission under RTI Act etc. after Re-organisation of J&K State. The Lawyers delegation pointed out the setback caused to the movements of protection of the rights of consumers, fight against corruption, right to information of citizens when the institutions earlier existing in J&K have been closed after reorganization and people are left to be exploited and supressed. The Registration of documents had been going on smoothly in J&K for the last about 100 years before the Judicial Officers. By shifting it to Revenue officers, people have been subjected to great hardships due to long delays and incrept corruption. The Lawyers Action Committee has been agitating on these issues for the past 113 days and requested Congress Party to take up these issues with the Govt and at other forums. Congress president expressed full solidarity with the Lawyers Action Committee on the issues raised by it. He said that the Congress Party was concerned over denial of legal and constitutional rights of the people in J&K and assured full support to the Lawyers Action Committee on these issues and would participate in joint actions, the Lawyers Committee may decide. He also assured that Party would raise these issues at Centre and UT level.
In the meanwhile, the agitation of the Lawyers Action Committee completed 114 days today and held dharna in the Court Complex Janipura in support of its 8 points charter of demands.
