Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 6: A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janta Party has drawn flak for having hailed Sameera Fazili, one of the 20 Indian-Americans, who are part of the Joe Biden administration.
The BJP leader from Kashmir has hailed Fazili on the social media by posting “Proud Kashmiri” about her. The post by the BJP leader wherein he retweeted a post by a journalist has not been taken well by his party colleagues than to talk of others.
“When it has been confirmed by media that she was involved in anti-India protests, which actually challenge the historic decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, why should someone who comes from the same party appreciate a critic,” said a BJP leader on the condition of anonymity. He said the issue would be raised with the said BJP leader at a meeting scheduled to be held at that the party office in Srinagar soon.
Fazili has a track record of playing a role in anti-India protests in USA over the Kashmir issue. As per the news reports, Fazili played a key role in one of the protests within four days of abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. She reportedly supports ‘Stand with Kashmir’ (SWK) a Kashmiri diaspora-led international solidarity movement. In August 2019, following the abrogation of Article 370, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) introduced her as a member of SWK. “We urge people of conscience to come out and show support and solidarity for the people of Kashmir as authoritarianism and Islamophobia rise around the world, from India to the United States to Europe. Come show your support for human rights, international law, and democracy,” Fazili had said then.
She was picked by the new US President as Deputy Director of the National Economic Council (NEC), a policy body that is part of the White House. She had been a senior advisor in the NEC during the Obama Administration.
Despite repeated attempts, the said BJP leader was not available for comments.
