The authorities shifting their focus towards Rohingyas illegally living in Jammu seems to have not gone well with the Kashmir centric leaders.
National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has demanded that the issue must be addressed through humanitarian angle while PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has retweeted some news stories in which the decision to start the process of deporting Rohingyas was opposed.
It has been a long pending demand of Jammu people to deport Rohingyas from the region as they setting up their dwellings in and around Jammu has created insecurity among the people. Rohingyas after their arrival in Jammu have remained surrounded in controversies due to their involvement in criminal activities and other acts. The security agencies had already sounded an alert that these refugees can be used by the militants for subversive activities.
When PDP was sharing power with BJP in erstwhile J&K State the party sabotaged the move to deport the Rohingyas illegally living in Jammu. The then J&K Government had stated that refugees from Myanmar were “protected under international laws” to which the Government of India (GoI) was a signatory.
If the Kashmir centric leaders are so much interested in protecting the interests of Rohigyas then they should get them shifted to the Valley rather than insisting on allowing them to stay in Jammu. The government deciding to deport Rohingyas is a welcome step and Kashmir centric leaders should stop poking their nose into this matter. No one is interested in what they are talking. It seems that these leaders just want to remain in news. It’s better for them to talk about the issues concerning Kashmir and stay away from what’s happening in Jammu. These leaders have no footing in Jammu region and they should understand it.
Deporting Rohingyas falls within the domain of the Centre and it has already taken the call. Jammu desperately wants to get rid of the refugees from Myanmar. Jammu is already congested and it cannot afford more congestion.
Jammu based leaders need to take a stand and tell the Kashmir centric leaders not to interfere in the issues which touch the skin of a common man in Jammu. Leaders from Jammu by not countering the propaganda of Kashmir centric leaders are once again trying to drive home a point that they can’t stop appeasing leaders from the Valley.
