| Al- Badr Chief Gani Khaja killed in Tujjer Sopore | | Major success for security forces: Police | | S TAHIR-UL HAQ

BARAMULLA, Mar 9: One of the most wanted militant and Chief of Al-Badr outfit Gani Khawaja was killed on Tuesday in an encounter at Tujjar area of Sopore in this north Kashmir district.
Sources said that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Tujjar.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.
He said there was an exchange of fire from both the sides, and after which encounter ensued in which Chief of the Al-Badr Gani Khawaja has been killed.
It is a major success for security forces, this operation was carried cleanly on a very specific input which was received by police today.
Meanwhile earlier today security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Daulatpora village of Police Sub Division Kreeri of Baramulla district.
Sources told ET that a joint team of forces including 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) SOG of J&K police and 177 BN of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the said village after having specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area. |
