LG steps in, DDC members call-off agitation
3/11/2021 12:10:12 AM
Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 10: As bureaucrats failed to placate the annoyed elected representatives, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured newly elected members of the District Development Council (DDC) to address their grievances. It is all due LG's assurance that DDC members have called off their on-going protest launched on Tuesday for respectable honorarium and status.
Chairman of DDC Jammu, Bharat Bhushan, who belongs to BJP, informed media persons that they have received a message from the Lt Governor. "LG is presently out of the station and is coming back on March 12 for a meeting to address our genuine demands,", he said and announced to call off the protest after LG's assurance.
Bharat Bhushan is leading the protest of the DDC members who were assembled at Jammu on the second consecutive day to lodge protest against warrant of precedence issued by the government on Monday.
"We have formed a committee, composed mostly of DDC chairpersons from across the Union Territory, and they will hold the meeting with the Lt Governor. We are hopeful of a peaceful resolution of the issue," he said.
Agitating DDC members blamed bureaucrats for the protocol and power related controversy. They said that Lt Governor had in the past assured to strengthen the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the Union Territory and ensured a three-tier system for the betterment of the people.
DDC members alleged that the administration cancelled the accommodation to the members who have come from different districts forcing them on the roads following the protest.
As reported earlier DDC members staged the protest after the UT administration amended its warrant of precedence, placing the DDC chairpersons equivalent to administrative secretaries, vice chairpersons to vice-chancellors of universities and the DDC members to district magistrates.
