BJP opens new Pandora box, demands nomination provision in UT Assembly

Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 10: J&K unit of BJP has opened a new Pandora box by demanding that there should be provision of nomination in the new Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory (UT) of J&K to give representation to unrepresented communities.
Party raised this demand in a resolution passed in its state executive committee meeting held at Spiritual Growth Centre Katra on March 7.
"After the decision of 5th August, 2019 and re-organization of erstwhile J&K State, 90 legislative assembly seats have been created union territory of J&K instead of 87 which were available for J&K State out of which four seats belonged to the now Union Territory of Ladakh. In view of the new scenario there was a need for delimitation of the new constituencies in the Legislative Assembly of UT of J&K which process is going on and extension has been granted to the Delimitation commission for a period of one year to conclude the delimitation by March 2022. Because of extraordinary efforts and good work done by the BJP, BJP will certainly form its Government in Jammu and Kashmir also in view of huge public support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per the Reservation Act, Pondicherry Model is applicable to the J&K where there is provision for nomination to the legislative assembly, J&K BJP would request the Government of India to consider the nomination to unrepresented communities as per the provisions of the Constitution of India, which is now fully applicable to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir", the resolution reads as.
In the Legislative Assembly of the erstwhile state of J&K, there was provision of nomination of two women as MLA. Instead of giving representation to the deserving women in the Legislative Assembly, successive governments have only nominated political leaders as MLA in the Assembly.
