BARAMULLA, Mar 12: The incessant rain from past couple of days has caused water logging in most of the areas and people suffer due to no proper drainage in Baramulla district.
The residents of scores of areas including Khowjabagh, Kanthbagh, Singhbagh, Kanispora, Delina and various low lying areas expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to provide proper drainage system in the area.
Bashir Ahmad of Kanispora said that, "In absence of drainage facility, lanes and by lanes are submerged. It has become difficult for us to even venture out of our homes.
"The snow has started to melt and water has seeped into foundation of our houses. Walls and foundation of various houses have developed cracks, said another inhabitant of Kanispora.
Last year we were expecting drainages in our area, but today we are witnessing water logging and it is all because of failure of authorities to construct drainage system in Khowjabagh and Kralhar area, said a local resident of Khowjabagh.
They alleged that authorities have failed to execute the projects so far as many times we were promised that drainages will be constructed at the earliest.
If anywhere these drainages had come up, they are either choked are made up of substandard material, and that is why it allow water logging, resulting in immense hardships to commuters, locals and one and all, said local residents of Baramulla.
Due to water logging people were forced to stay indoors, and it gives us immense hardships on daily basis.
Local residents of Baramulla district wants permanent dewatering from the affected areas so that they will not suffer further in future.
The concerned authorities are requested to readdress the problems at the earliest, otherwise there will be cracks in their house if water logging was not solved.
