Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 13: Traders Federation Ware House-Nehru Market on Tuesday urged MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh to take a sympathetic view of the issues pertaining to wine traders of Jammu as their livelihood is on stake after the unveiling of excise policy 2021-22.
Deepak Gupta briefed Dr Jitendra Singh on phone about the way the new excise policy is going to hit the existing wine traders of Jammu snatching from them the right of earning livelihood. He urged the MoS PMO to intervene and find an amicable solution to the problem whereby the affected traders get justice. He said that this grave issue is not of mere wine traders but their families, and the families of workers and others who are directly or indirectly connected with the business. "The total number of souls which are going to get affected nearly count to 30,000 and if things are not rectified in time there is every possibility that the aforesaid number of people will have to face starvation", he maintained adding that MoS PMO is their last hope.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the Federation's President that he would talk to the concerned office and ensure that the existing traders are not affected in any way by the new excise policy. Dr Jitendra assured that no person or family will face any difficulty as their interests will be taken care of. The Minister assured that he will project their issues at the concerned quarters of the government and hopefully a favorable response is expected.
Earlier Jagdish Jastoria, Chairman and Baldev Khullar, Ex-chairman of Jammu Wine Traders Association visited Federation office and shared their plight. Anil Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu and Rajesh Gupta, Secretary, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu were also present on this occasion.
On this occasion, Baldev Khullar said that before 370, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were one and the whole state had one excise policy. Now two separate Union Territories have been formed, but the old system is still in force in Ladakh. He said that our licenses are also valid till 2023. In such a situation, they demand that the government give them at least two years so that in these two years they can make any arrangement for their livelihood. Khullar said that there are many traders who have taken loans from banks for the education of children, for their treatment and for the business. If the government closes their shops, they will be on roads. Federation's President Deepak Gupta assured that the federation will fully support them in this matter and will fight till the end.
Munish Mahajan, Sr. Vc. President TFWHNM, Abhimanyu Gupta, Jr. Vc. President TFWHNM, Sham Lal Langer, General Secretary, Vishal Gupta, Secretary TFWHNM, Amit Gupta and Cashier TFWHNM were also present during the meeting.
