Govt orders constitution of working groups to save wetlands

Srinagar, Apr 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the continuation of working groups for the preparation of brief documents proposing the conservation of around 18 wetlands including Dal Lake.
Commissioner Secretary Forest, Ecology and Environment Department, Sanjeev Verma issued the Order No. 45-(JK) FST of 2021 dated 12-04-2021 on Monday and notified dates for the submission of brief documents so that the wetlands can be notified under the wetland Conservation and Management Rules 2017.
According to the order, a copy of which lies with Early Times, Vice- Chairman LAWDA has been appointed as Chairman of the working group for Dal Lake and the group has been directed to submit the report on 30th of this month.
For Wullar Lake, Chief Executive Director, WUCMA has been appointed as Chairman of the working group and has also been asked to submit the report on 30th of this month.
For wetlands including Anchar, Ahansar, Mansabal, Khushalsar, Gilsar, Waskhursar, Nigeen and Narkara concerned Deputy Commissioner will head the working group while as an expert from University of Kashmir and a representative of Pollution Control Board (PCB) will be the members of the working group. This working group has been directed to submit the report within three months.
In Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Ramban will head the working group constituted for Sansar Lake while Chief Executive Officer Patnitop Development Authoirty a representative of Pollution Control Board (PCB) and an expert from University of Jammu will be its members. This working group, according the order issued by Commissioner Secretary Forest, Ecology and Environment Department, has been directed to submit report on 15th of June 2021.
Deputy Commissioner Samba will head the working group constituted for Purmandal Lake. The department has also constituted a working group for other six wetland or water bodies of Jammu division of which the names haven’t been mentioned in the order.
The working groups have been advised to prepare the Brief Documents in conformity with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2020.
