Early Times Report

Rajouri, Apr 20: A shocking revelation has come to fore at Kotranka Block in this frontier district, payments of several works that have been released don’t exist on ground.
Residents of Panchayat Daraj-A alleged that the concerned Sarpanch and Panchs along with some officials of Block Office Kotranka got payments released for works, which don’t exist on ground.
Giving details of such works, they said, that a payment of Rs 5.62 lakh was released for construction of a playground, which is not visible. Similarly, a payment of around Rs 16 lakhs was released (Rs 11 lakh from CDF and Rs 5 lakh from MGNREGA) in the name of a road construction from Daryal to Bagga Sahib, which was never constructed.
Not only this, even the concerned Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS) takes commission for all works which are executed in the panchayat. “GRS, who draws a salary of Rs 4000, owns a car worth Rs 20 lakh, which clearly shows that he is earning more than his known sources of income. He has been doing all this in connivance with concerned newly elected panchayat representatives,” they said further adding that whenever any information regarding these works was sought from BDO Kotranka, it was not provided to them on one or other pretext.
Local residents challenged that if their claims are found false then legal action should be taken against them.
They expressed shock over the fact that no proper inspection was done after completion of works. “There is nexus between panchayat representatives and some officials of block Kotranak, who have been embezzling funds. We will lodge a complaint with the Divisional Commissioner soon,” they said.
Pertinently, Kotranka had remained in the news for many wrong reasons. It has been alleged that even commissions are taken in PMAY schemes.
Locals urged the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to take note of the issue and demanded that strict action should be taken against the erring officials.
Despite repeated attempts BDO Kotranka couldn’t be contacted as his phone remained switch off.
