Anantnag, Apr 26: Unnerved with Delhi’s Oxygen shortage crisis, the heads of Panchayats in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have decided to procure oxygen cylinders for Primary Health Centers.
The Panchayat representatives, who on Monday met here at Dak Banglow Khanabal, took the decision after discussing the situation emerging due to outbreak of a second wave of coronavirus. The District Development Council Member Dachnipora presided over the meeting. Besides him, senior officials from district administration including officials of Health Department attended the meeting.
“We discussed the current situation in detail and sought the details from the Health Department with regard to availability of facilities in our primary hospitals functioning in far off areas of the district. During the discussion we felt that most of the hospitals don’t have basic facilities for handling COVID-19 symptomatic patients,” DDC Dachnipora (Srigufwara) Nisar Ahmad Mir told Early Times over phone. He said that all the public representatives decided unanimously to procure at least four (4) oxygen cylinders for each Panchayat out of the funds released to them for development.
“Keeping in view the situation that unfolded in the national capital I firmly believe that at this juncture an oxygen cylinder is the most important requirement,” Nisar said.
He said that these Oxygen cylinders will be handed over to Block Medical Officers and will help saving lives during emergency situations.
“We don’t know what is in store for us. We must learn a lesson from the Oxygen shortage crisis and must prepare for the worst,” he added.
The Panchayat members also decided to help frontline workers. “Few frontline workers like Asha workers are underpaid and must be helped at this stage,” Latief Ahmad Khan said during the meeting.
The members also impressed upon the officers to ensure strict implementation of COVID-19 SOPs and asked them to pace up vaccination programs across the district.
