JAMMU, Apr 26: The residents of Raina Colony Babliana Jammu Sector-B Lane number 1 have castigated the Union Territory administration for what they called as failure to provide basic amenities to them including proper lanes and by-lanes, while ensuring proper sanitation in their locality.
The lane number 1 Raina Colony Babliana falls under the jurisdiction of the limits of Gandhi Nagar constituency but the pathetic condition of lanes, by-lanes and drains has been presenting a sordid tale of absolute neglect by the people at the helm of affairs. The successive governments as well as the elected representatives have failed the people of the colony and they are suffering like anything.
Residents of the locality said that the Lane was not properly constructed by the concerned authorities, since the development of the locality. “The lane connecting the houses is still a dusty track with pebbles and stones, spread all over”, the residents said, adding that garbage could be seen littered at various places in the lane, while construction material was also dumped in the lane.
The residents further said that the concerned authorities have not properly constructed the lane while drains have also not been properly constructed along both sides of the lane.
“In absence of the drains, the water discharge from the households drained out into the lane and gets accumulated into small ditches. The stagnant water in these small ditches provide breeding ground to the insects including flies and mosquitoes”, the residents said, adding that the garbage is also dumped along the lane, making it difficult to pass through it.
The residents said that the construction work that was started in the area should be completed at the earliest so that they would not face problems furthermore.
They said the delay in this regard would compound the problems of the road adding that as such it is imperative to complete the works as soon as possible.
“The authorities should fix tiles in the main lane so that the residents would not face problems”, the locals said, adding that due to non availability of drains as well as a proper maintained road, it created unhygienic conditions in the locality. Blaming those who ruled them in the past, the residents say it gets difficult to move around but the same does not make any difference for the people who ruled us in the past.
The residents said that the municipal authorities have failed them since the garbage remains unattended for days together thus creating problems for the people to move on the pathetic road.
“The garbage including the polythene sheets, construction waste gets dumped in the lane, causing obstructions to passerby”, the residents said, adding that they have been forced to live a primitive life since the basic amenities have been denied to them.
Munish Gupta, Editor-in-Chief Early Times has demanded that the government should pay immediate attention to the problems of the people of Raina Colony Babliana Jammu Sec-B Lane 1. Inviting the attention of the Lieutenant Governor, Munish Gupta said that necessary instructions should be passed to the concerned authorities to provide basic amenities to the residents.
