JKCCTU holds virtual meeting to mark May Day

JAMMU, May 1: On the eve of "May Day", a virtual meeting through voice calling was held today by the J&K Coordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU) which was attended by the office bearers, State committee members and prominent activists throughout J&K. The meeting was presided over by Md Maqbool, President JKCCTU. He while initiating the meeting said that unfortunately we are unable to organize large or even small gatherings today on this historical day due to the alarming rate of Covid infections in the whole country including J&K and because of Corona Curfew throughout UT today. He said while speaking that let us pay our homage to Chicago Martyrs and express our solidarity with the struggling people of the world who are fighting the neo-liberal economic offensive imposed by imperialist finance capital led by USA. Let us pay our heartfelt condolences to the victims of Covid pandemic and their bereaved families who lost their precious lives. Gurmeet Singh, General Secretary JKCCTU while speaking said that present govt has miserably failed to contain this pandemic and also showed utter negligent attitude to provide sufficient oxygen and ventilators in the hospitals resulting in death of precious human lives. He demanded to provide free vaccines to all and effective measures to protect front line workers like health, electricity, public health and other workers who are fighting this pandemic. He also demanded effective lock down and online system for all employees should be devised like private sector employees during lock down including insurance cover lake health for all front line workers. The others who expressed their views and paid homage to May day martyrs were Hooraji, Raj Kumar, Zakir Hussan, Shah, Mohan Lal and others.
