Anantnag, May 01: In the midst of surging Covid-19 cases, the shocking incident of mismanagement at Government Medical College Anantnag has surfaced which couldn’t turn the hospital into a super spreader.
The microbiology department of Government Medical College asks people to gather and queue up to 12:00 am each day who visit Hospital’s flu clinic for RT-PCR tests.
“The microbiology department starts taking samples from 12:00 am and ends it at 2:00 pm,” well placed sources at GMC Anantnag told Early Times.
They said that people start arriving in the flu clinic from early 9:00 am but they are being made to wait till 12:00 am.
“This is every day’s scene here. Even those who later test positive for COVID-19 freely mingle with others,” said a doctor, however he wished anonymity.
He said that COVID-19 SOP’s particularly the social-distancing norms where being openly flouted. He however said that the people who visit hospitals for getting RTPCR tests were not at fault as they are being asked to queue-up the flue clinic staff.
“The flu-clinic setup by the microbiology department must remain open for round the clock and people shouldn’t be made to wait for long,” he suggested.
Seniors doctors in GMC Anantnag alleged that the top authorities didn’t take them on board when such decisions were taken.
“This happening for the first time that permanent and senior faculty members are being made to work under contractual staff,” they alleged.
They said that even Principal Medical College GMC Anantnag Dr Showket Jeelani has authorized a contractual faculty member to make purchases related to COVID-19 which they said was violation of SRO-364.
“A female doctor has been made HOD of the department and authorized to make purchases worth crores of Rupees.
According to rule SRO-364 contractual employees can’t make purchases and in case of fraud recovery isn’t possible from such an employee,” they added
