Early Times Report

Jammu, May 6: Even as Jammu has been a victim of underdevelopment in the last 70 years of “dynastic rules”, the government has seemingly admitted the paucity of resources even in the health sector to fight Covid-19 in the winter capital region.
Official documents, a copy of which lies with the Early Times reveal that in a formal order from the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, the government has spoken about “limited” resources and “increase in the bed occupancy in Government Level-I COVID Care facilities in Jammu Division.” “Whereas apart from the referrals from other Districts. COVID positive patients on walk- in basis are also reporting directly to Government Medical College Jammu & Associated Hospitals,” reads the order No 902/Div com/ DCCR/236/08/2021 dated: 28. 04. 2021. The order admits that the shortage of intensive care facilities created need for “rationalization” “Accordingly in view of the limited Isolation/ ICU/ HDU beds in Level-I facilities there needs to be rationalization of the admission of COVID positive cases in Government Medical College Jammu/ Associated Hospitals/dedicated COVID Hospitals under Directorate of Health Services Jammu,” the order said. Medical health experts in the government sector who went through the order said it was an “open admission” of the shortage of healthcare infrastructure in the Jammu region. Interestingly in the wake of the said order, a Covid triage has been setup in Jammu. “As such COVID-19 Triage Facility is ordered to be setup in Chest Disease Hospital (CD Hospital) Jammu which shall act as first -contact point for screening of any COVID Positive patient intending to get admitted in GMC Jammu & Associated Hospitals and other identified dedicated COVID Hospitals under Directorate of Health Services Jammu,” the order said. Officials said the orders were issued to improve the facilities in the wake of rise in Covid19 cases in the winter capital region and that Medical Superintendent C D Hospital Jammu and a senior officer shall be nominated from Directorate of Health Services Jammu to provide necessary co-ordination in the triaging and rationalization of admission of such COVID positive patients.
