DLSA Udhampur holds virtual interaction with jail inmates on COVID

UDHAMPUR, May 12: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) held an online interaction programme with jail inmates to know about the problems being faced by prisoners due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme was organized on the directions of Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority and guidance of Chairman DLSA Udhampur, YP Bourney.
Secretary DLSA Rajni Sharma interacted with the under-trial prisoners to know about their problems and grievances being faced by them and their family members particularly during this ongoing Pandemic Covid-19. She tried to interact and reach out to almost all category of prisoners including the foreign inmates.
During the interaction the foreign inmates by and large projected a common grievance that they are all desperate to establish contact with their families which could not be materialized as yet. However, they have no complaint with regard to providing them the basic facilities in jail.
Secretary DLSA also interacted with other under-trial/convicted prisoners to know about the well being of their families.
However majority of prisoners with whom she interacted have not shown any serious problem about their families in normal times however they have exhibited the concern about their families in this pandemic situation and accordingly requested for extending some help to the families, if possible.
Meanwhile Secretary DLSA instructed the concerned PLVs and Panel lawyers to establish the contact with their families so that requisite remedial measures may be taken as early as possible. She also instructed the concerned jail authorities to follow the SOPs regarding Covid 19 pandemic strictly and also made aware the prisoners how to maintain the standard of hygiene to save them from this deadly infection. Panel Lawyers of DLSA Udhampur namely Sanjeet Kumar and Pawan Gupta were also present with Secretary DLSA during interaction with jail inmates .
