5/12/2021 11:28:03 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 12: Even as deadly second wave of Covid19 is making Kashmir bleed with record rise in number of cases, the people are seeking “whereabouts” of the Member Parliaments from the valley, all of whom belong to the National Conference. While MP for central Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah has not been in good health since testing positive around two months ago, the other two MPs are who represent north and south Kashmir seats in the Parliament are allegedly missing from the scene.
Sources said Muhammad Akbar Lone, who represents the Baramulla constituency seat and Justice Retd Hasnain Masoodi who is from the Anantnag Constituency, area accused of not visiting their constituencies nor inquiring about the well being of the people from these areas. “There has been a serious crises and everyone is concerned about the worst case scenario in terms of hospital beds and oxygen supplies to say the least, but these two seem to be hiding somewhere and it speaks of their leadership qualities,” said a political observer on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the two MPs didn’t even bother to visit the Covid hospitals in theirs constituencies to assess the ground situation. “They were morally duty bound to keep track of the developments,” said a concerned citizen. Sources said the National Conference has been facing embarrassment due to such complaints from the public circles and that that party has been unable to do any face saving.
The MPs have been staying silent more so since the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019. For the last around a year since the Covid waves gripped Jammu and Kashmir, the two NC leaders have been facing public criticism for their “absence from the scene.” Despite repeated attempts, the two MPs were not available for comments. But a NC leader said the two MPs were concerned about the crises and have been polling in efforts out of their constituency development funds.
