Early Times Impact: Health Deptt returns 29 unutilized ventilators to GMC
5/16/2021 11:27:04 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 16: A day after the Early Times raised the question on utilization of ventilators procured by the Health Department under Prime Minister’s Cares programme, Director of Health Services (DHS) Jammu returned 29 such life-saving machines to the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC) Jammu.
In GMC-the premier health institute of Jammu province, deaths of helpless COVID patients are going unabated due to the non-availability of adequate infrastructure.
Although Health Department has awaked from deep slumber, many helpless patients have lost their lives in dedicated COVID wards of the GMC due to the non-availability of life-saving equipment like ventilators.
According to an official handout issued this evening, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Jammu has provided 29 ventilators received by it under PM Cares scheme to Government Medical College Jammu.
The ventilators are urgently required in GMC Jammu for catering to the heavy rush of critical COVID patients.
The concerned authorities were directed to handover the ventilators along with the accessories and four oxygen cylinders (D Type) per ventilator to the GMC Jammu administration.
As reported by this newspaper in its May 16 edition, Health and Medical Education Department has purchased as many as 400 ventilators during the first wave of deadly Coronavirus but it is still a mystery where these ventilators are installed.
Instead of utilizing these ventilators at appropriate places, many such machines were sent in the hospitals located at peripheries where these ventilators are getting dust in storerooms.
