EARLY TIMES REPORT

KISHTWAR, May 17: Following the surge in COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the government has yet to formulate a policy to disinfect the houses that are lodging COVID positive cases in home isolation.
As a result of this laxity on part of the government, the majority of the areas that have been declared as micro-containment zones are continuously posing a grave threat of spreading the virus at a large scale. But contrary to the responsibility of the local Municipalities and Municipal Corporations, the local NGOs without much resources in hand are leading from the front in carrying out disinfectant drives in COVID hit areas of Kishtwar District.
As per the details available with Early Times, volunteers of “Hilal Healthcare Society” Kishtwar today sanitized Covid-19 affected areas of village Palmar in Kishtwar where around 10 areas have been declared as micro-containment zones after more than 70 positive cases were reported from the area in last few days including 9 cases from Suzna area of the block today.“If you are in need of sani tization of your homes or Mohallas in Kishtwar you can call us on our contact number and our volunteers will do the needful without charging anything,” said Firdous Bagwan, a volunteer associated with Hilal Healthcare Society.
Bagwan said that the organization is a non-profit NGO and depends entirely on public donations. “We're commanded by the Lord to spend a part of our wealth for those in need.” He said that they have carried out sensitization of many areas in Kishtwar town beside mosques and private homes and added that today they dedicated themselves entirely for Palmar which is a worst affected area.
He said that they also provide oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, and ambulance services to needy people and importantly have started distribution of free food kits to the poor people who had nothing to cook at home.
They seek public cooperation and help in mitigating the problems of the people that have arisen due to the outbreak of the deadly virus.
Several people today while talking to Early Times called upon the government for formation of teams at block levels for carrying out massive disinfectant drives in COVID hit areas of the Union Territory besides also in the homes that lodge the COVID patients so that there is no threat of virus spread.
