KUPWARA, May 23: A major incident was averted by a joint team of security forces including army and police after they recovered explosives in Karnah area, while Kupwara police busted Pakistan sponsored Narco-Terror module worth Crores and arrested the associates in this north Kashmir district today.
Based on specific intelligence reports, a joint operation was launched by Jammu & Kashmir Police and Army in Karnah, Tangdhar, Kupwara in the morning of 22 May 21.
The joint operation led to recovery of 15 sticks of plastic explosives, near Nichli Jabri Village of Tangdhar. These explosives were hidden in a Dhok for further transshipment to the hinterland.
Statement said that, “Such intelligence based swift operations conducted by the security agencies in the heart of Tangdhar bowl with zero inconvenience to locals is reassuring and makes us feel safe”, said the locals on being asked to comment about the operation.
Security agencies and Civil Administration in Karnah Tehsil continue to work hand in hand to negate the security threat of smuggling of narcotics, weapons and stores for terror organizations in J&K, through Tangdhar bowl.
In the last two years, a total of 28 weapons & over 60 kgs of narcotics have been recovered from Karnah, apart from a host of explosives including ammunition & grenades, reads the statement.
Meanwhile here police said that on a specific information, Kupwara Police have busted a Pakistan sponsored Narco-Terror module and arrested 01 Terrorist Associate identified as Mujasir Ahmad Lone S/o Muzaffer Ahmad Lone R/o Karen Bala.
Incriminating Material Narcotic substance Heroin 08 kgs (worth 50 Cr. Market value) were recovered from his possession.
The other absconded involved persons have been identified and efforts are being taken to arrest them.
The Module was in close connection with Pakistan based Terror handlers and were involved in drug trade & assisting financially to active terrorists of the Valley. The recoveries also exposed the inter connection between drug dealers and terrorists.
The module was working for Terrorists to strengthen their activities in the valley and were misleading and motivating the local youth of the Valley to join militant ranks.
A Case under relevant sections of Law has been registered at Police Station Kralpora and investigation has been taken up.
Kupwara Police once again appeals to the people of the District to come forward with the information regarding Drug Peddlers/Smugglers so that the curative steps can be taken against them.
It is pertinent to mention here that, just a few days back, two SPOs were arrested with brown sugar after which they were terminated from the service.
Reports had said that Kupwara Police arrested two SPOs with brown sugar in a vehicle they were travelling.
A police party from Kupwara recovered 14 grams of brown sugar from two SPO’s in Dragmulla Kupwara, said reports.
The Alto car (JKO9B 6215) they were travelling in was also seized, and one of the SPOs resident of Chamkoot Karnah and another resident of Bumhuma Kupwara were arrested.
The duo have been absent from the last one month and have been disengaged immediately. A case has been registered against them.
