Isolation centres in Panchayats drawing flak from rural society: Harsh Dev
5/25/2021 11:06:40 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 25: Questioning the rationale behind opening of Covid care centres in Panchayats without any staff support, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman-JKNPP and former Minister said that it only revealed the confusion prevalent in the system in the wake of corona pandemic consuming precious lives day after day. He said that the govt had issued a queer order directing the village Panchayats to divert Rs 1 lakh out of the Development Funds of their respective Panchayats for establishment of 5 bedded corona care cum isolation centres in each Panchayat. He said that it was unimaginable to have a corona care centre without requisite caring staff or even any arrangement for food or essential drugs for the patients/suspected patients. And obviously, he said centres had drawn a flak from the rural society with hardly any takers for the govt’s bizarre proposition. Take feedback on the occupancy in such centres and you will find hardly any centre which has enrolled patients therein thus rendering the entire exercise redundant, asserted Singh. He was on tour of various villages including Nakain and Motto in furtherance of the party’s mission to disburse ration and relief to the poor and other marginalized sections of society.
Expressing concern over the collapse of health care system in Ramnagar constituency in particular, Singh revealed that several dispensers and health centres had become non-functional and closed down due to non-availability of any staff. The Health institutions which had closed down in Ramnagar included Khaned dispensary besides Health at Kadwa, Playee, Jagwal, Garh Samnabhanj, Ukhral as not a single health official was posted in any of the said institutions. Besides several health centres were being run by Class-IV and Safai-Karamcharis with none to take note despite repeated calls. He said that despite the matter having been brought to the notice of Lt. Governor personally by him, the concerned authorities had failed to awaken thereby revealing their contempt and disdain for rural areas inhabited by poor people.
