Jammu, June 15- The Central Library plays a quintessential role in furtherance of academic and research pursuits of the University of Jammu. Ever since the outbreak of unfortunate COVID-19, there is now a time to look for more tools to augment the already existing facilities in the Dhanvantri Library, said Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu on his visit to the Dhanvantri Central Library.
Prof Dhar underlined the need to beef up the requisite technologies available at the Central Library to make it the state of the art Central library and emphasised on establishment of e-Resource Centre so that best of the facilities can be clubbed up at one place to ensure that the students and scholars of the University of Jammu gets more access to e-contents e.g. popular magazines, selected journals, theses, reports, e-books, e-journals, and online databases in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences to make their studies at par with any other institute of repute.
As University is steadily climbing the well-acknowledged ranks of success, the more is the responsibility to carve a better niche when it comes to e-governance. Prof Dhar further said that the University over the period of time in a consistent way have been giving access to the students and scholars to world-class physical and digital content available but the teaching faculty in general and officers in particular at the library must put their heads together to ensure that seamless facilities are made available not only at the Central library but also at the Departmental libraries.
The role of e-libraries has now become now more & more significant after the outbreak of Coronavirus. Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu assured that all the requisite help shall be rendered to the Central Library on behalf of the registry to make their functioning as per the objective and mission laid by the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof Varsha Mehta, Librarian while speaking on the occasion said that under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, the staff at the library trying its best to sync itself with the current trend but in the days to come, Central Library will try its best to enhance it's already infrastructure and give more e-access to its resources for students and scholars of the University of Jammu.
