After Govt fails, Kud residents collect money to repair 1-km road stretch
6/16/2021 12:01:28 AM
Early Times Report

Kud, June 15: Residents of Kud have collected money on their own to construct a link road that leads to Mal Road and Madda Road in Udhampur district.
This road falls in the constituency of Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh but residents claim that he too has “ignored” them.
Kud Resident Welfare Association has collected Rs 1 lakh to repair this government road that leads to the famous health resort of Patnitop and is just 1 kilometre away from the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A senior resident Amreek Singh said, “This road was constructed in 2002 and since then not a single penny has been spent to maintain it. We had approached Patintop Development Authority (PDA) but we were told that there are no funds and this link road cannot be repaired.
We had even submitted a memorandum to the then J&K Governor, he handed it over to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur but no action was taken.”
The Sarpanch of the area said, “We tried our best to wake up the government but no one listened to us. The people whom we have voted for are not even interested to meet us.”
He said, “No one seems interested in repairing this road stretch.”
A lady doctor, Dr Sehgal said, “Despite paying taxes we have been left with no other option other than to contribute from our own pockets to get this one kilometer stretch of the government road repaired. We are the worst sufferers as we stay along this road.”
Retired Group Captain Mahesh Abrol of Udhampur said, “I wanted to buy a piece of land here and construct a house so that I could stay at a place which is pollution free. All my life I have worked very hard, I wanted to relax but after observing the conditions, I have changed my mind.”
Surjeet Singh said, “Member Parliament, Dr Jitendra Singh has never stepped in this area. He has just taken votes. Crores come from the Centre for developing the road infrastructure, but one fails to understand where does this money go?”
Narjeet Singh Data said, “We have been staying here for the past five years. No attempt has been made to repair this road. Mada and Mal Roads have been constructed but the road connecting these vital roads has been left in shambles.”
